How do the fixed or bonded retainers work?

We use a similar technique that is used to glue/bond your braces on with. Instead of being on the front of your teeth, this will be on the back of your teeth and unnoticeable. We will bond a very thin wire to the back of or behind your front four teeth and behind your lower front four teeth. It is considered to be permanent. However, it will require maintenance long-term. Through time the continuous wear from eating and biting can cause the wire to come lose. It is designed to come off in a way that will not harm your teeth. In the event this happens you would wear your “back-up” retainer that we will provide you with until you are able to make an appointment to fix your broken bonded retainer. The benefit to a bonded retainer is you don’t have to worry about remembering to wear your removable retainers and risking teeth movement.
