Invisalign® vs. Traditional Braces

Rather than bringing out their “inner geek” with traditional braces, many adults are choosing more subtle options to shape up their smiles. But the type of orthodontia selected goes beyond aesthetics. At Advanced Orthodontic Care, we believe both every smile is unique, and the most important decision is to select the right tool for the job.

Traditional metal braces are most appropriate for situations where serious correction is required, such as bite correction, rotation of cylindrical teeth, root uprighting, or vertical tooth movements. These conditions are most easily corrected when we are younger, which is why “braces” are almost instantaneously associated with the awkwardness of youth.

In situations where less dramatic steps are required to attain a more even smile (and when the patient is concerned about being taken seriously), many of our adult patients opt for alternate types of braces, such as Invisalign®. Dr Rudman is a Premier Invisalign Provider. This designation is reserved for the top 5% of all Invisalign practitioners worldwide. Dr Rudman is an expert at combining different treatment options to provide you with the best orthodontic outcome in a manner that fits your lifestyle.

Invisalign® is a system of custom-made clear, plastic aligners worn on your teeth much like a mouth guard. You can remove them for meals, when you go out for special occasions or even just to brush your teeth. As your teeth change and your smile improves, you will change aligners every two weeks, wearing them for 20-22 hours a day. Best of all, appointments are only needed every six to eight weeks to pick up your next set of aligners.
