Dental Care in the U.S.

When it comes to quality of dental care, we have it pretty good in the United States. The technologies are out there that allow us to prolong the life of our teeth. But what if you are just too frightened to go to the dentist or can’t find affordable dental care? At Advanced Orthodontic Care, we know the value of keeping your teeth healthy and do whatever we can to help our patients get the excellent care they need.

A popular myth is that going to the dentist is a luxury. But in reality, good dental and oral hygiene are an integral part of staying healthy. The loss of teeth makes eating fresh fruits and vegetables difficult, and a diet heavy in soft, processed foods exacerbates more serious health problems, like diabetes and chronic obesity.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there are approximately forty-five million people in the United States without insurance, and many more than that without any type of comprehensive dental insurance. More than one third of poor, uninsured or under-insured children ages 2 to 9 have one or more untreated decayed primary teeth, leading to pain, self-esteem issues and academic under-performance. Who can study or get excited about learning when they hurt, feel badly about how they look and can’t eat healthy foods?

And finally, on an aesthetic note, consider this: fair or not, those struggling to get ahead in the job market quickly find that bad teeth (and the self-consciousness that results), can become a major barrier in actually landing a job. If your teeth are bad, you’re less likely to get a job requiring interaction with clients, customers or the public, no matter how qualified you might be.
