Invisalign Teen™

No teenager looks forward to braces. They are awkward, uncomfortable, and an eyesore at a time in your life when appearance is very important. However, reluctance to wear braces should not prevent your teenager from receiving essential orthodontic care necessary for maintaining good oral health.

Fortunately, there is now a new option for teenagers requiring orthodontic treatment to correct malocclusion issues. Invisalign, a clear braces treatment option for adults, now makes a version geared for teenagers. It is called Invisalign Teen.

Invisalign Teen provides teenagers with an effective method for treating their orthodontic issues that helps them maintain their self esteem and self confidence. It works similarly to the adult version of Invisalign. A series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners will gradually move your teenager’s teeth into proper alignment.

Denver orthodontist Dr. Robert Rudman will take impressions of your teenager’s teeth. A series of customized aligners will then be created from the impressions using 3D technology to map out the course of treatment. The aligners can be removed during eating, brushing, flossing, athletics, and special occasions. However, to receive maximum benefit from the treatment, your child should wear the aligners for approximately 20-22 hours a day.

The Invisalign Teen system includes some additional features not present on the adult version, such as a Blue Dot Wear Indicator which fades when your aligner is ready to be changed and Eruption Tabs to accommodate the growth of second molars. It is an excellent option to treat:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Widely spaced teeth
  • Overbites
  • Crossbites
  • Underbites

At your initial consultation, Dr. Rudman will inform you as to whether Invisalign Teen is the right treatment for your teenager.

What is Malocclusion?

Malocclusion is the improper alignment of teeth and/or jaws. When your teeth and jaws are not properly aligned, it may adversely impact your bite, the ability to properly care for your teeth, your gum tissue health, and your appearance.

Most people experience some degree of malocclusion, but it generally is not severe enough to require corrective measures. However, if your malocclusion is serious enough, orthodontic treatment may be necessary to correct the issue.

Untreated malocclusion can lead to the following dental health problems:

  • Tooth decay
  • Gum disease
  • Chipped and cracked teeth
  • Uneven tooth wear

The most common treatment for malocclusion is braces. The actual course of treatment, including the length of time you will require braces, will be determined by severity of your malocclusion.

The goal of your braces treatment is to move your teeth into the proper position and correct any misalignment in the jaw. If overcrowding is causing the problem, Cherry Creek orthodontist Dr. Robert Rudman may need to remove one or more teeth as part of treatment.

Advanced Orthodontic Care provides high quality orthodontic care to Cherry Creek area residents. We use the most advanced technology in the field in order to ensure that you receive the best possible results during your procedure.

Your Gums and Oral Health with Braces

The importance of oral hygiene and taking care of your teeth and gums remains while you wear braces. While braces straighten your teeth, you can contribute by making sure you are vigilant with your brushing and flossing habits.

Due to the brackets in braces, you should avoid certain sticky foods that may become stuck in them, such as apples, corn on the cob, bagels, caramel, carrots, popcorn, nuts, and more. The likelihood of food getting stuck in hard-to-reach places where they can contribute to tooth decay and gum disease increases with braces. The development of plaque that leads to bacteria can cause problems that braces alone won’t be able to help fix.

Brushing and Flossing

To avoid the accumulation of food particles in your braces, brush your teeth after each meal and then again before bed.

Pay special attention to the area under your gum line. Flossing is not necessarily a pleasant experience if you don’t do it regularly, and it can be even more difficult when your wear braces. However, flossing to remove food particles and plaque must be done every day. This process can take even longer with braces.

After your braces are removed, you want to see that you have a beautiful smile with straight and white teeth. Continuing to brush and floss every single day will help you achieve this goal.

What to Expect from Your Consultation

At your initial consultation, Denver orthodontist Dr. Robert Rudman will conduct a comprehensive examination to assess your oral health. This will better enable us to determine the best treatment method for your orthodontic needs.

Your orthodontic evaluation will consist of an oral and facial examination to assess your oral health. Dr. Rudman will take intraoral and facial photographs as well as panoramic and cephalometric x-rays to help determine the proper orthodontic treatment method for your needs. An impression of your teeth and bite will be taken to construct a model of your mouth. This will help Dr. Rudman when examining your diagnostic records.

At your second appointment, Dr. Rudman will discuss your options with you. He feels it is important to take the time to carefully examine your diagnostic records after your consultation so that he can more thoroughly prepare your treatment recommendation. This additional preparation will ensure that you receive the best orthodontic care possible. At this time, we encourage you to ask us any questions you may have about your treatment.

If you are seeking orthodontic treatment for your child, we will ask that both you and your child attend the initial consultation. We feel it is important that both you and your child completely understand the treatment recommendations and objectives before we proceed.

Please contact our Denver orthodontists today to schedule your free initial consultation. Cherry Creek Orthodontics serves patients in the Denver and Stapleton, Colorado areas.

Pre-Consultation Considerations

Finding the right orthodontist is much more complicated than in previous years. Advances in orthodontic technology, an increase in the variety of orthodontic treatments offered, and a larger percentage of non-orthodontic specialists performing treatments can make your choice much more confusing.

It is important to do your homework before going for a consultation with an orthodontist. By researching the background and experience of your potential orthodontist and coming prepared to ask important questions, your initial consultation can greatly help you know that you have chosen the right person for your needs.

The following information will help focus your research so that you come to your consultation prepared:

  • Ask your general dentist for a recommendation. Often, general dentists work closely with orthodontists and regularly view the results of their orthodontic treatments during check-ups. Your dentist can probably talk very intelligently about which orthodontists provide the best treatment.
  • Ask friends, family members, and colleagues for recommendations as well. If the treatment is for your child, check with the teachers’ associations at your child’s school as well. They may be able to give you a good recommendation.
  • Make sure your potential orthodontist is a licensed member of the American Association of Orthodontists. This will ensure that he has gone through the most rigorous training available.

At your initial consultation, be prepared to ask the orthodontist several questions about his training, background, and experience. Some important questions to ask include:

  • How long have you been practicing orthodontics?
  • What is your education and training?
  • Can I see before and after photos of previous patients?
  • What types of treatments do you offer?
  • What are my best treatment options and why?

Your potential orthodontist should be able to answer all of your questions completely and in a way that you understand all of your options. If you do not feel comfortable with the orthodontist’s demeanor, experience, or recommendations, then keep searching. You are not obligated to work with an orthodontist simply because he provides you with a consultation.

The Advantages of Today’s Dental Braces

Advances in dental technology have made dental braces much more effective than they were in previous years. As a result, you can enjoy superior orthodontic treatment and increased comfort.

Here are some of the advantages of modern braces:

  • Reduced treatment time – At Cherry Creek Orthodontics, we use computer-aided technology with all of our orthodontic treatments. This enables us to create your ideal tooth position, and your treatment will be completed much quicker.
  • Comfortable treatment – Dental brace wires are now made of materials that provide more efficient repositioning of your teeth with considerably less discomfort. Titanium implants can be used to anchor the bone on the side of your mouth in order to shift your front teeth back. This will create more space for the rest of your teeth. Dr. Robert Rudman can also attach magnets to your molars to help lift and reposition them. Most importantly, very few orthodontic treatments today require the cumbersome headgear used in the past.
  • Improved aesthetics – Patients who are ideal candidates for Invisalign can enjoy their treatment with clear braces which will not be unsightly to friends, family members, and colleagues. Invisalign treatment consists of a series of aligners made out of a clear material that fits tightly over your teeth. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and causes a gradual shift in your teeth. When your treatment is done, you will have straight, beautiful teeth. Dr. Rudman will want to see you every six to eight weeks to monitor your progress if you choose Invisalign treatment.

At your initial consultation, Dr. Rudman will conduct a thorough orthodontic evaluation and discuss your treatment options with you.

Please contact our Denver orthodontists today to learn more about the advantages of modern dental braces. Cherry Creek Orthodontics serves patients in the Denver and Stapleton, Colorado areas.
